Vivien Louise Brown, 88, of Blacksburg, passed away Wednesday, Mar. 18, 2026, at Lewis Gale Montgomery Hospital. Born Aug. 27, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Agnes Morgan and Clair R. Brown, Sr.

She graduated from Blacksburg High School in 1955 and attended Averett College (now Averett University). Vivien returned home to the family farm after school and kept the books. Later, she took care of her parents until the time of their passing. Vivien often assisted family members when needed. She was an avid Hokie fan from afar, watching TV and keeping up with all the details of various teams in the paper.

Vivien was preceded in death by her parents; siblings and their spouses, Ross and Hallie Brown, Wallace and Mary Ann Brown, Martha Brown and Roy Gladwin, Sandra Moran Brown, and Dennis and Margaret Brown; and a nephew, Morgan Brown.

Survivors include her brother, W.C. Brown; nieces, nephews and their families, Billy Brown and Mary Lou Saville, Fran and Dickie Shepherd, Lou Ann and Bill Phipps, Michele and David Dalton, Dianne Brown Reynolds, Donna and Richard Blanchette, Lori and Larry Heath, Ross and Nancy Gladwin, Bruce and Shelli Gladwin, Michael and Amy Brown, Cathy and Mike Sporer, Gail and Bill Peters, and Chris Brown; many great, great-great and great-great-great nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends.

A graveside service will take place at 11 a.m. Friday, March 27, 2026 at Sunrise Burial Park in Radford.

The family would like to thank Carilion Home Health Care, especially nurse Andrea Wilson and nurse aide Barbara Pack for assisting Vivien to remain in her home; Good Samaritan Hospice for assisting in the care of Vivien over the last few days; and Lewis Gale Montgomery Emergency Room and second floor staff for the exceptional care provided during Vivien’s stay there.

The Brown family is in the care of Mullins Funeral Home & Crematory in Radford.
