Dr. Roxanne Souma is the new Director of the New River Valley Governor’s School Program in Arts and Humanities.
Souma brings extensive experience supporting both gifted learners and students with disabilities, overseeing programs that integrate academic excellence with whole‑student development. Her endorsements in theatre arts, English, history, and gifted education provide a strong foundation for leading NRVGSAH through its pivotal inaugural year.
Souma specializes in differentiation, acceleration, and dual‑enrollment pathways, including founding the Pulaski County Cougar Scholars Program, which enables students to complete an associate degree while still in high school. She also collaborated with Radford University faculty to design the Governor’s School 10th‑grade curriculum and to ensure junior‑ and senior‑year courses align with VDOE graduation requirements.
Beyond administrative leadership, Souma excels in cultivating strong partnerships with higher education institutions and local school divisions. Her collaborative work with Radford University and the participating divisions strengthens coordination, expands shared resources, and increases opportunities for both students and faculty. Known for thriving in innovative, student‑centered environments, Souma is poised to guide NRVGSAH into its next chapter and to help solidify its place as a premier institution for arts and humanities education in Southwest Virginia.
