Mike McGuire led the Radford University women into this weekend’s Big South championship game, but the team didn’t deliver on another conference championship in a loss to High Point.
McGuire shared the Big South coach of the year honor, his fourth ‘Coach of the Year’ award from the Big South and his first since 2019. McGuire now is tied for the second-most coaching awards in Big South women’s basketball history with former Liberty and Gardner-Webb coach Rick Reeves.
The Roanoke native became the winningest coach in Radford basketball history (both men’s and women’s) on Nov. 11 vs. Loyola and took his 200th career win on Dec. 18 at Hampton.
McGuire led Radford to their fourth 20-win season under his tutelage after a victory at Gardner-Webb on Saturday. He and Gardner-Webb Head Coach Terri Williams share the award for the 2025-26 season. It’s the first time since 2000-01 that two coaches share the award. McGuire and Charlene Curtis are the program’s two coaches to earn the award multiple times.
