And then there were three on the sidelines for the Virginia Tech wrestling team. Another Robie is bound to the Hokies.
Last week, Jake Robie announced he would be joining his father and brother in Blacksburg.
Christiansburg High School’s Robie brought home his second straight Class 3 state championship earlier this month on a technical fall in a 17-1 win over a Culpeper County opponent in the 190-pound weight class.
His brother, Luke, is a redshirt sophomore for the Hokies and also a former CHS wrestler. He is finding some success this season after finishing 4-8 last year when his season was cut short to injury. His freshman year, he was 5-2 on the season while winning a title at the Southeast Open at 149-pounds. Like his brother, he is former Virginia state champion and a four-time state placer at Christiansburg High School.
The two wrestlers might know the Tech coach a little more than other recruits. He is their father, Tony Robie. He took the head coaching post in 2006 after serving as the program’s associate head coach.
Progressively he has built the Hokies into one of the top programs in the ACC and a mainstay in the top 10 nationally. Eight full seasons into his tenure as head coach, Robie is still leading the Hokies into new territory.
The ACC Coach of the Year for the sixth time in eight seasons, Robie continues to set the standard.
Robie collected his fourth league Coach of the Year honor in a row after leading the Hokies to an 11th place finish at the 2025 NCAA Championships, three All-Americans for the 12th-straight season, helping guide Caleb Henson to become Tech’s first back-to-back NCAA finalist, both the ACC regular season and ACC tournament title along with four individual ACC champions, 9-2 dual record, and securing the No. 4 recruiting class in the country.
