The Montgomery Museum of Art and History’s youth music education program, Montgomery County Junior Appalachian Musicians, or “MJAM” for short, got a boost from the Community Foundation for the New River Valley with a $4,000 Responsive Grant award from the foundation’s Arts Alliance Endowment.

“This grant provides much-needed support for our operations and will help us provide instruction to kids 8-14 in traditional Appalachian music and culture,” said MJAM Program Director Jason Dilg. “This takes a team of great artist-instructors and volunteers, a library of well-maintained instruments–we loan them to students who don’t have them, for free–and a facility to hold our classes.”

The grant is great news for the program in an otherwise difficult fundraising environment.

“Our hope is that this grant serves as something of a ‘stamp of approval’ for donors and sponsors in the New River Valley to support our program’s continuing operations, and growth in the coming years,” Dilg added.
