Cheryl Marie Lewis, 73, of Radford, born Dec. 2, 1951, passed away peacefully Friday, Nov. 14.

Born and raised in Radford, Cheryl was a woman of deep faith and unwavering strength. In her early years, she was a devoted member of Radford Church of God in Christ, and in her later years she worshiped with her church family at New Mount Olive United Methodist Church, where she loved helping wherever she was needed.

Cheryl was a proud graduate of Radford High School and earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Virginia Tech. She dedicated her life to serving others through education. Over the years, she worked with students through Upward Bound Talent Search, New River Community College, and later as a guidance counselor at Pulaski County High School, where she eventually retired. She had a gift for seeing people’s potential long before they saw it in themselves, and she helped countless students and community members make connections, find direction, and believe in their futures.

Cheryl was kind, strong, and an extraordinary problem solver. She was an advocate for those without a voice and could be fierce when it mattered. She was known as “Momma Cheryl” or “Miss Cheryl” to many of her children’s friends and was always quick to offer a helping hand—whether asked or not. She loved gardening, basketball, cooking, and supporting her church. Her presence brought comfort, laughter, and a sense of home.

Cheryl and her husband Christopher Lewis shared more than 53 years of marriage, built on love, partnership, and faith.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence Carter and Doll Hubbard, and her brother Michael Buford (Joyce).

She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted husband, Christopher Lewis; brothers Clarence Carter (Marila) and Perry Carter (Sholanda); son Christopher Lewis (Shannon); daughter Casey Starks (Cedric); grandchildren Cassidy, Carter and C.J.; and a large circle of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends who loved her deeply.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 21, 2025, at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford with Rev. Jenene Lewis officiating.

Cheryl’s legacy lives on in the students she guided, the lives she touched, and the family she loved so fiercely. Those who knew her take comfort in knowing she is reunited with loved ones who passed before her and she now watches over her family with the same warmth and strength she carried throughout her life.

The Lewis family is in the care of Mullins Funeral Home & Crematory in Radford.
