Blacksburg High School has announced its athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2025.
The Hall of Fame Class will be recognized at the BHS Hall of Fame Game Friday, Oct. 10 at halftime of the game and at a ceremony Saturday, Oct. 11 in the Blacksburg High School Auditorium.
The list of inductees includes:
Brandon Dove
Dove graduated from Blacksburg High School in 2005 and was a four-year baseball starter with a .416 career batting average and .505 on base percentage. He holds the BHS Single Season Record .568 batting average (2005) and had 372 career put outs as first baseman, .985 fielding percentage, and six errors in four years.
Dove was named 2005 first team all-district, first team all-region and first team all-Timesland, honorable mention all-state and 2005 American Legion Scholarship award (State of Virginia and US regional Award winner). He had 11 career wins as a pitcher. 109 strikeouts and 3.91 ERA. He was also the 2005 Bill Brown Scholarship Award winner, lettered years in basketball (2004, 2005) and played two years collegiately at Radford University (2006 & 2007). He graduated with Bachelor of Business Administration in 2009 and currently resides in Blacksburg with his wife, Carly, and children Austin and Cayson.
Geinda Smith
Smith graduated from BHS in 2013 and was a four-year varsity letterman in soccer and a member of the 2010 and 2013 state, region and district champion team, and the 2011 and 2012 region and district champion team. In 2011, he was named Second Team All-State, First Team Region and First Team District (22 goals and two assists). In 2012, he was First team Region and First Team District (nine goals and four assists). In 2013, Smith was NSCAA All-American, First Team All-State, First Team Region and First Team District (16 goals and 16 assists).
He was also a two-year varsity letterman in track and was the overall State Champion in 2011 and 2013. He was the 2013 4×200 State Champion and 55 Meter Dash State Finalist. Smith was a two-year varsity letterman in Blacksburg football and led the team in rushing in 2011.
Smith was a two-year varsity letterman at Colgate University on a full scholarship for soccer. In 2013 he finished second on team in points with two goals and one assist. He was a two-year varsity letterman at Washington and Lee University. In 2016, he received an Honorable Mention ODAC (four goals, two assists). He earned a Bachelor of Arts in political science in 2017 from Washington and Lee University and currently resides in Blacksburg with his dog Cleo.
Mary Thorn
Thorn graduated from Blacksburg High School in 1994 and was a four-year letter winner in women’s basketball. She was team captain 1992 and 1993 and a member of the AA State Champion team in 1992 and 1993. Thorn was named All-State first team in 1993, All-Timesland first Team and All-Region first team in 1993, and All-District first team in 1991, 1992 and 1993. She was named to the Virginia East vs. West game in 1993 and Who’s Who in American Sports. Thorn held the school record for assists (463). She was a two-time letter winner in volleyball in 1992 and 1993.
She had a full scholarship to East Carolina University and was a East Carolina letterwinner in 94-97. She earned a BSBA in Business with a concentration in MIS. Thorn was a referee in collegiate basketball at Division I, II and III, and high school levels including post seasons for 15 years.
She currently resides in Raleigh, N.C. with her wife, Kristi, and their two children, Wyatt and Colin.
Karen Wierwille Corvin, MD
Corvin graduated from Blacksburg High School in 1984 and was the Prep All-American Girl Athlete in 1984. She was a letterman and outstanding performer in Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field 1980- 1984 and in Cross Country 1981-1983.
She was the individual Virginia State Track and Field Champion in the 800m in 1981,1982 and 1983, and in the 1600m in 1982 and1983. Corvin was the1600m relay anchor leg in 1982, 1983 and 1984, and was second place in the 800m in 1984.
Corvin was the individual Virginia State Cross Country Champion in 1984 and was the State Outdoor Track and Field Record holder in the 800m in 1982, a record held for over 30 years. She was the Virginia State Outdoor Track and Field Record holder (anchor leg) in the 1600m relay in 1982, a record held for 29 years. She was the Virginia State Indoor Track and Field Record holder in the 1600m and the 1000m in 1982, a record held over 30 years.
She was the Blacksburg High School Cross Country Course record holder in 1984 and a member of the Virginia State Team Track and Field Champion team in 1982, 1983 and1984, and second place in 1981. She was also a member of the Virginia State Team Cross Country Champion team in 1982, 1983 and 1984.
Corvin was a member of the National Honor Society at Blacksburg High School and attended Auburn University on an athletic scholarship for Cross Country and Indoor and Outdoor Track, where she was a letterman in both sports.
She earned a Bachelor of Science Chemistry Cum Laude from Auburn University in 1988 and a doctor of Medicine Degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine Birmingham in 1992. She completed her obstetrics and gynecology internship and residency at the Medical College of Georgia in 1992-1996. She had a private practice in obstetrics and gynecology from1996 – 2018 and is now an associate Professor at Duke Women’s Health. She is married to George Corvin, MD and the couple has two daughters, Courtney and Caroline.
