LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Dear Editor,

Four weeks before the 2024 Presidential election, Linda Skeens, of Christiansburg starting walking every Thursday, in front of the Christiansburg Trump Store. She walked, by herself, in front of the store; with a sign supporting Kamala Harris. She didn’t say anything, she just showed her sign to cars driving by.

After the election and the inauguration, Linda and several other women saw the situation in Washington D.C. going the wrong direction for individual voters. The NRV group decided they would encourage citizens of the NRV to express their feelings by protesting at the corner from Pizza Inn (The People’s Corned) every Thursday from 11 to 1.

At the beginning the numbers were small, but over the last three months protestors have increased to anywhere between 100 to 500 citizens for each rally; some coming during their lunch hour (11-1 a.m.) to express their opinions concerning the situation.

Recently individuals have told me it was a waste of time for people to stand on the corner with a sign. I don’t see it that way. Even in Christiansburg, with a majority of Republican voters, citizens are concerned about what is going on in Washington. They see others protesting and begin to realize they are not the only ones scared, and they start feeling they should volunteer and get involved.

It is our job to be a part of what is going on in this country. We all need to stand up for what is right.

Steve Huppert
